AutoExpress pits the new M6 Cabrio against the SL63 AMG

AutoExpress puts two of the most expensive and powerful sports cabriolets money can buy to the test around Blyton test track - BMW's all-new 2013 M6 Convertible vs. the all-new 2013 Mercedes SL63 AMG.

On paper, the two are very similarly rated power-wise but who will emerge victorious and which would you rather plunk your cash down on?

The 2013 M6 convertible carries a much lower MSRP of $113,995 in the US, compared to the SL63's sticker price of $146,695. IN the list below you'll see the SL emerge victorious by a full second faster around the test track, but does that equate to spending $30,000 + more? You be the judge.

Thanks for posting. Very interested in the SL63. Crazy how an AMG is considered more nimble and better handling then a M from bmw. Looks like these companies are moving in opposite directions. Yeah for MB, boohoo for bmw.

It's a sad day for bmw, when their m6 gets beaten by a mercedes sl at the track. This is why i have not walked into a bmw showroom in years. I don't know their sales figures but with their current line up and the i drive, i don't see the dealer showrooms being packed with buyers, like Audi and porsche are.

yeah as much as I generally dislike merc, I think they're headed in a much better direction than bimmer. especially with this stupid 4 series/m4 sh1t.. just my 2 cents. BMW m is not what it once was and should be. amg and Audi rs are far superior in my opinion (now at least).

The M6 is also a 2+2 so I'm not sure why it should be faster than an SL AMG. I agree AMG is doing amazing things however.

I agree, not sure why they would go and compare the two being that they serve different purposes. The SL63 is more of a roadster if you will and the M6 is a grand tourer.

Keeping in mind the greater dimensions of the M6 and weight I think it's quite the achievement to be only off by a second. What would the possibilities be if BMW created a car that was a direct competitor to the SL63?

To be fair I do admire what AMG does and love these beasts equally.

I just don't think this comparison says much, oranges to apples.

^BMW does not have the guts to make a roadster or sportscar.
They tried and failed miserably in the past ( Z8 and M1)

So this is the closest thing they produce today.

And i do agree its a unfair comparison, but hey life aint fair

BMW m used to mean something. I don't know why --- or how---- but they lost their core values, and feels to me like they lost many loyal customers. M cars are boring, unaggressive, heavy pigs these days.
