Death of the Manual

To each his own, trust me I daily drove my Stradale for 2 months and even though it wasn't a 6MT you want rock hard and bone jarring and hard ride try that out a 933 or an M3 are Cadillacs compared to that. I also daily drove not one but 2 997 GT3's .1 and .2 so I know what direction I am coming from

in euroland you got sticks on lower end cars,..you learn it at driving school,..
every crap car is a MT
so here it`s nothing special,..and more of a luxury to have an AT to save nerves in traffic
in the US it`s the other way round,..AT is standard,MT is something special,..for the car guys and "good drivers",..you can set yourself apart from the rest by knowing how to drive a stick properly,..it`s cool, almost fashionable
how many times does one drive his DD at the performance level where a stick makes fun?
not all that often compared to the time on sits in traffic or rolls down the highway in a massive stream of cars
PDK,DCT etc are good compromises here,..offering both manual and auto mode
plus it`s faster and being faster equates to fun as well
a bit digitalized, less raw etc but it does the job,e.g changing gears(fast)
a much much greater concern for me is the future of car weights and engine tech
a 2 tons M3 with a triple turbo 4 cylinder would be like...hell on earth

I've been driving MT cars since I got my drivers license and I'm sick and tired of it. Next one is going to be an AT for sure - until I can afford that 7.2 GT3 I have wet dreams about.

as long as Porsche keeps producing manual i'll be fine. imo, manual is fun but has to be in the right car. the mass of the M5 & M6 is just not the right combination with manual transmission. manual tranny has to be mated with proper sports car like 911 etc.

yeap, i'm driving an auto daily for the first time in years...and everyday I hate it.
It's been 2 months and I still go to engage the clutch every time i get in.

Also a good point a manual tranny belongs if anything in a proper car.

That's the thing... With a stick shift, every drive can be fun. You're actually interacting with the car, shifting the gears yourself, heel-toe downshifting. All of that makes a boring drive more fun and it's something that's lost with any sort of automated transmission.
