Post E93 M3 in Jerez Black-Bamboo w/DCT (UK Owner's Review)

This is Berb's car in The UK and here is a little review he wrote on it.

"Here are my thoughts so far:

Exterior: Incredible. I am getting the thumbs up from strangers as well as friends and family. This car is a real head turner. I'm very lucky to have one right now as there are hardly any new M3's on the road at the moment. This summer is going to be a good one! I'm very happy with the high-gloss shadowline trim which effectively hides the cuts in the roof; particularly as my car is Jerez Black. The 19" alloys in conjunction with the flared wheel arches really gives this car a mean look. Whenever I'm in the fast lane of the motorway, more cars move out of the way for me to pass them than normal! The electric folding mirrors are a nice touch. I particularly like the way the passenger mirror tilts downwards automatically when reversing so you can check that you're not going to kerb your alloys!

Interior: The extended bamboo beige elegantly complements the mirror anthracite wood trim. My car came without the split front armrest but I'm really liking it now - I was worried at first because I didn't appreciate it in fox red but I'm now really admiring it in bamboo beige. The leather seats are really comfortable. Much softer and of a better feel than the nappa leather on the other BMW cars. All the detailed stitching on the extended leather gives this car a very luxurious feel. So many electric seat controls make it impossible for anyone to be uncomfortable! Heated seats are very effective with three different settings - will come in handy in the cold winters of London! Park distance control front and rear will also come in handy when parking in tight spaces. You do have to switch the PDC front on everytime you want to use it but I suppose there's no getting around that because otherwise it will come on everytime you're stuck in traffic? Comfort access is awesome and already I cannot imagine driving a car without it. The adaptive headlamps come in useful when I'm pulling up to my private car park at night; suitably responsive and lights up quite a wide area. Hi-beam assist I haven't tried yet but I can notice the module that operates it when really close to the car from outside. I got extended storage also which gives me a few nets at the back of the seats and also some nets for the boot. Should come in useful sometime I suppose - if only to prevent things moving around in the car too much; particularly when the roof is down and I'm going fast!

Bluetooth/Prof DSP Hi-fi/USB: Connected my wife's ipod using a Y-lead and I could navigate through all of her playlists seamlessly. The quality of the sound is seriously good. I had a moment with the roof down and blasting the music. At high volume the quality of the sound is terrific. I adjusted the fade to favour the rear just slightly and this combines well with the Concert Hall sound effect. The Digital radio is awesome and it's all I ever use now! No problems with reception at all and all the radio stations sound crystal clear. Bluetooth was easy to setup but I haven't played with that or voice control very much. All I know is that people who I call are saying that they can't hear me loud enough. I wonder if I can control the volume of the in-car microphone? Or maybe it's my phone?

Boot space: No complaints at all. Yes it's a bit limited with the roof down but when it's up, there is ample space to hold my wind deflector and plenty of shopping bags! I also have the through-loading system where there is a cut in the back of the boot big enough for a golf bag. One interesting feature is that when you close the boot, you're supposed to only softly close it and an electric mechanism closes/locks the boot properly for you - this is to prevent shattering the rear windscreen.

Engine/DCT: This has got to be the best thing about this car! Hearing that V8 engine is out of this world; particularly with the roof down! This car just wants to eat up tarmac without a care in the world. I feel so comfortable driving this car at high-speed. The top handling really does make this BMW's ultimate driving machine! It is seriously difficult to keep to the 5500rpm break-in limit and I just cannot wait to get to the first service now. The DCT is awesome! I have only really tried D/S 2-3 and the gears just change up and down without you ever noticing. When you put your foot on the gas, the gears change down appropritely, you hear the roar of the engine and you're away. The car knows exactly which gear to go into. I've had a few "duels" with some other cars at traffic lights and have easily been able to out-accelerate them. I'm just waiting for a 911 driver now! My only gripe is that when the car is at a standstill on D1 for example, you have to put your foot down a lot more to get the car going. It was annoying for the first day or so but you soon get used to it. I suppose they built it this way so you have more control of the car at low speeds?

To sum it up, I'm extremely happy and do not really have anything bad to say about the car! It's incredible! I just can't wait for the 1200 mile service and for more sunny days to get the top down! "

Thank Burb for the review and the pics. It is amazing how much nicer this looks then the US Model that doesn't have the shadowline trim.

teh_ginger is an unknown quantity at this point
I can't emphasize how much I hate convertible versions of sport coupes. A 911 Carrera cabriolet is the ONLY one I'd ever consider.
