2012 Geneva: BMW M6 Coupe Makes World Premiere
BMW’s stand at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show displayed a bright orange beast that certainly would get most true motoring enthusiasts juices flowing – the BMW M6 Coupe.
While the engine is straight from the M5, it’s still worth mentioning. Twin-turbocharged, eight cylinders and mated to a seven-speed, super-quick dual-clutch transmission, the M6’s motivation comes via 560bhp with a 0-62mph time of just 4.2 seconds. Yet it sips like a bird, with a staggering 23.7mpg able to be achieved. Top speed is limited to 155 mph, or 189 mph with the optional M Driver's Package.
Its swoopy coupe shape also outdoes its frumpy predecessor and the clean-sheet interior is a work of art. But there’s more to it than just good looks.
The suspension and differential mean the M6’s handling is up there with the best, despite its imposing size. That’s thanks to clever use of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, which keeps the weight down and lowers the center of gravity.
Other nice touches include the full-colour head up display, huge crystal-clear sat-nav screen and typically brilliant BMW seats. The Geneva show marks the world debut for the coupé while the convertible will make its debut next month in New York.
Did we mention carbon-ceramic brakes will be available, too?
Teamspeed will bring you the full test on the M6 soon.
