Hey Teamspeed, I'm going to see a 2007 M6 coupe later this week. It has 39,5xx miles, SMG transmission. Anything specific to look for? The car has a clean carfax, 2 owner car.
Thanks in advance.

Looks great! Looking for another color though but yours is very nice, I'll keep it in mind.
Thanks

Any way to detect a faulty SMG, or is there a way to find out clutch life left on these cars?
Reliability, known issues, etc.
I'm looking in the BMW forums as well but I was trying to get an easier answer here, lol
How was your M while you owned it? Any regrets / things you didn't like?
Thanks

Mine has been very good overall. If I had to do it again, I would get at least an '08 since I really prefer the look of the LCI cars. I also upgraded my navigation to the 2010 CIC system and that was also a huge improvement. The Dinan Stage 2 suspension was also a worthwhile upgrade.
As far as reliability, I didn't have any major issues. My car is still under BMW CPO warranty and Maintenance, so I didn't have to pay for anything out of pocket. My oil cooler did develop a leak. I think that's a fairly common issue. I think my window regulator had to be replaced once too. No issues with the SMG or clutch. The best thing you can do is try to get all the service and warranty records for the specific car. Let me know if you have any more specific questions.

I owned an M5 (so, same drivetrain) for 3.5 years, with hardly any problems. Take a look at when the spark plugs were last changed. It's not uncommon for them to need replacing by that mileage, and it's a V10, and so rather a PITA.
Either way, I wouldn't own one without some form of warranty. I had good reliability with mine, but I still got the occasional RCOD. The downside with that car is that if *anything* goes wrong with it, it's an expensive fix.
