I'm guessing the track makes you sign something saying you can't sue them for damages but can you go after the other drivers if they hit you?
I'm as much of a capitalist as anyone else but when they neglect driver safety by keeping the track open during deadly roadworks, that's where common sense ends and absurd idiocy-turned-greed starts. I'd usually say that whoever fails to stop in time is at fault for anything that happens on a public road (the Ring is), but this, I am not so sure. That specific corner gives you about half a second to react, come to a complete stop, and merge (should you be passing someone) all while in a completely blind corner going well over 100+ mph. And let's not forget it seems the freakin' Ring Taxi couldn't even stop in time - not only does the driver know the track better than any other living soul, but is most likely an extremely competent driver too.

But yes, they are with 99% certainty responsible for all the damage as well as whatever Armco they dented. Having Ring coverage on Euro insurance policies is extremely rare lately - the Vette was Swedish reg too, so if he was at fault he'd have to pay out of pocket for everything he damaged, other cars included, because the one insurance company here with track coverage dropped it last year. Fvcking OUCH!

The situation just before the 8 cars pile up yesterday. Not suprised there was a smash.
NOS 02 10 2011 010 - YouTube!

And few sad pics.

Oh and for those that are concerned about the future of the ring, there is a good FB group called Save The Ring - join. Good people doing good stuff. Save The Ring | Facebook

Weren't there signs up saying, "caution, slow your ass down?"

Would make sense if there was construction going on.

Wow, what a boneheaded time/place to be working on the track. How could they not have figured this would happen if they allowed construction while the track was open?

The company that runs the Nordschleife / Nürburgring almost declared bankruptcy last year. I guess they wanted to keep the track open no matter what. What a stupid thing to do. Safety should always come first and I'm glad nobody was killed.

Hope no one was seriously hurt. Hate to see so much damaged precious metal in those photos.

Yes, the new company that is run by businessmen, not racing enthusiast.... Thats why I was promoting the "Save The Ring -STR" group.

This new company is the same that is behind making the whole Nurburgring towards a amusement park...

Short version from 20832.com - Nürburgring Nordschleife

"From 2007 - 2009 the German government built a huge Leisure Park at the Nürburgring. It is based on fake visitor numbers, oversized and badly executed. Most of the time it is an empty ghost town. Once promised as private investment, it is now based on a debt of 350+ million EUR public money.

Instead of pulling the plug they rented the park - including both race tracks - to exactly the same privateers (Kai Richter, Jörg Lindner), who were driving forces behind the Leisure Park's initial private setup.

Without Racing experience they are since experimenting with events completely unrelated to Motorsport (German Volksmusik for example, another one here) - all under the iconic "Nürburgring" brand name.

They now want Nordschleife to pay for the huge losses of "NüroDisney": record prices and bundled packages for tourist drives plus a 5 times increase for the automotive industry in rent for their prototype testing sessions."
