Spied Again: 2013 BMW M3 (F80)

Our Teamspeed spies catch the next generation BMW M3 in sedan form testing again. Internally called F80, the sedan will be the first of the M3 versions to appear on the market in summer 2013. The coupe version will follow a bit later on and will probably be named M4 since the new 3 series based coupes and convertibles are rumored to get the 4 series name. But there is still plenty of time until the M3/4 Coupe makes its debut so things may change by then.

Easy to make out on this prototype are the wider fenders and the big air intakes in the front bumper. Big brakes and the quad exhaust pipes are other typical M features that we can see here. Power is rumored to come from a turbo charged six cylinder engine this time, we are still unsure if there will be two , or three turbochargers.

are they ditching the "airvents"/"gills" on the bonnet or is it just a basic 3-series bonnet?

dumb question:

Why the change from "E" to "F"? Did all the "E"s share basically the same platform? I just realized I didn't know the answer.

I think they started running out of numbers to put behind the "E" so they switched up to "F".

I love the bird being flipped.

They're so nice to the spy photographers.

The alphabets denote the series/ the period over which the cars have been produced, just like how 911 has 991/ 997.
