If I have to say in the UK then THIS will be my next car...

and those who say it makes no sense since you can tune a 135i easily to 400hp simply don`t realize that

a) with the 1 M you get a very very solid base for modding it furhter

b) the suspension setup, chassis rigidness, steering etc and the work of the //M engineers will pay

c) the internals will be way stronger than those on the 135i ,so durability - even when heavily modded >400 hp - will be no issue anymore

d) BMWs hp numbers are always very conservative..

I`m thinking about changing my car for another one for quite some time now..

I have test driven the new M3 and the Cayman S...both very cool cars and while the Cayman lacked the power to keep up with the Emmy,it`s midengine and suspension setup just made up for anything because it was such a pleasure to feel and drive it around the backroads.
Great in just about every aspect, except the engine.

now that the 1er M is about to come I guess I`ll wait and hope that this car will offer the right power and a lightweight sportscar handling and feeling

But I hope they will change the engine mapping for better throttle response and a better sound...like changing the ignition times/intervals and all that

This is the reason I added "significantly" in my argument. Your response, while valid, assumes that I would mod the 1M. If I were to buy a 1M and keep it stock, then the price has to be in the same range as buying a 135i and modding it to equal the 1M performance.

I have actually taken steps to be one of the first to get their hands on this car here, and while discussing this with a number of BMW enthusiasts, I discovered that unless the M-Division really deliver on this car then I'm better off getting myself an M3 :)

More Info and Undercarriage Shots

Some more details per bimmerfile.com:

-The color is Valencia Orange Metallic, a new color exclusive to the 1M
-The 1M will be manual transmission only
-Those are the M3 Competition Package wheels
-The front air intake is pretty similar to the M3's, but even more pronounced
-The side skirts are also much like the M3's in shape
-The side vents will be 'outrageous' compared to the other M cars
-Some minor detail in the revealed area of the M1 will be changed. Bimmerfile suggests it's related to the headlights.
-The rear valance will have vents above the exhaust that protrude out and are angled slightly inward (see here, courtesy of bimmerfile)
-There's an oil-cooler in-front of the front left wheel (see here)
-The rear-view mirrors will look very familiar to E9X M3 owners

Deep down I love this model line...until 3 of my female employees bought them. Ruined everything.

I have a feeling that there will be differences between the Euro and US version...

Oh it'll be a nice car to drive for sure. But it will also still have the same silly side profile, cheap interior and when does the replacement arrive anyway? 2011?

BMW should've rolled out this car 2 years ago.

Same here. This car pictured with Dr. Segler doesn't have front reflectors. The headlights look a little different than the standard E82 1er as well. Maybe the reflectors will be moved down to the front bumper like the E92 3er.

F20 1-series will be at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA in September 2011

Here's a spy pic of new interior. Looks promising. I like the new HVAC controls.

Ja gerne....wenn wenn wenn......das Ding muss erstmal hier in die Schaufenster kommen :)

thanks for the interior pic!
The funny thing is,BMW seems to have a strict policy on the new technical additions to the cars

the most advanced and latest technology always appears first in the 7er,then in the 6er/5er,then in the 3er / 1er

I really like the new steering wheel and its functions...I enjoyed it in the F10

STOPPIE 08-31-2010 03:09 PM

So, what the heck is the price going to be? If it's going to be almost $50k, that would be VERY stupid. Just go pick up a barely used E90 M3 for that sort of money.

That's BMW's biggest issue with the 1 series. They make NO $$ sense at all.

He speaks like he knows what's up.

big_slacker 08-31-2010 10:59 PM

Exactly. They need to be smart with the pricing on this car. 50k gets you a lot of nice lightly used cars.

they will sell a lot of cars with good lease offers I guess...
that`s

The minority will have to decide if they slap 50k+ cash on a new 1 M or a used car

It's going to have to be at least $50k MSRP, Chris. A loaded 135i is around $45k MSRP. A loaded E92 coupe 335i (not 335is) is around $10k more. Don't you think that's a decent price difference?

big_slacker 09-01-2010 10:47 AM

I always forget about leases since they're not a consideration for me. I can see a person making the call for a lower monthly on a new 1 M vs a much higher payment for a used M3, RS4, etc...

C Money 09-01-2010 12:16 PM

Man this lil guy looks very promising... too bad I am WAY too tall to fit into it.

MC321 09-01-2010 12:30 PM

You guys in the US are lucky, by the time we get it here it'll be priced at your MSRP + 25% to 50%. This means it'll be more expensive than a slightly used m3!

HarveyMushman 09-01-2010 01:29 PM

Yes, I definitely see it $50+. A fully spec'd 135i clears $46k.

However, I think the real move to make will be getting a 1-2 year old 1 ///M.

JamesCaton 09-01-2010 03:30 PM

Except I've been reading up on 135's since this thread started.
And it seems like more performance can be had for less money.

Example:
Pick up used 135i- 25k
K&W coilovers
Full ASR turbo swap
toss some brembo's and light wheels on.

Up between 450 and 550 WHEEL horsepower.
For like 40k or below.

Pretty sure that'll kick the 1M's ass anywhere..

McRae 09-01-2010 03:33 PM

Oh Yes I Like!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but i do hope the tailights get the new facelifted LED treatment as well

JamesCaton 09-01-2010 03:37 PM

WOAH. NO, hold the phone.
Look at the badging.
That better be photoshop.

They can't name it M1....!!! >:/

Agreed, unfortunately.

Also, I do not think the quad exhaust will be a production feature.

Mr. Caton,

The idea of tuning a car to match the 1 Ms performance or exceed it is obvious...
but we are a small fraction of potential buyers who might think like that and the rest are people who appreciate things like it being a real //M car, having warranty and all that (btw,I`d appreciate that as well :) )
