Didn't BMW (or maybe Mercedes) have an EU-only option where you could take a driving school, pay a couple of grand, and then they'd raise the electronic limiter to 300 kph (or about 186 mph)? Still a limiter, just enough that you wouldn't get passed by someone in any other BMW, Mercedes, Boxster, or base 911.
