Exactly. I think cars like the M3 and Z4 M take big hits in economics downturns, and the deals available make them very attractive, even to non-enthusiasts. Their pricing puts them much closer to Z4 3.0si and 335 territory, and boosts sales. That, and the market that the M5 and M6 falls into I don't think is hugely effected by economy. Maybe some, but the echelon seems to be somewhat isolated from broader economic realities. Oh, and BMW is making some seriously stellar cars right now, that are much more accommodating to average users.
