Detroit 2012: Lexus concept points the way

Toyota's upmarket Lexus brand is entering a new phase led by the introduction at the Detroit show of its LF-LC hybrid coupe concept.

Mark Templin, general manager of the Lexus division pointed out that the first-ever Lexus, the LS400, was launched in Detroit more than 20 years ago in 1989.

He added: "So Detroit is the right place to move the brand into its third phase. The first was the establishment of the brand, the second was expanding the production portfolio and this new phase is all about creating cars that are emotional and inspirational."

The LF-LC, penned by the brand's stylists in California, displays the new design direction for Lexus, a much more sculptured look, highlighted by a glass-to-glass roof line.

Templin said: "We will see new Lexus models taking on aspects of this design in the coming years."

In the meantime, he added that the soon-to-be-launched G3 will be one of nine new and updated Lexus models being introduced this year with more distinctive looks, better fuel economy and more technology.

Front carries a bit of design bits from the one-77, especially the cut under the headlights mixed with the long hood and the basic shape of the headlights.

Aston's are too pretty to compare to this lol. It totallly has LFA and old Supra lines though. They need to fix the front. It looks like it was front ended in an accident with an IS250/350.

I love it, although yes...the chrome wheels could be improved upon. Not sure why they don't go towards a similar (but better route) with using a black nickel chrome finish instead or a burning silver finish (similar to the finish BMW uses on a lot of its M wheels).

Adjust the hood and there's a lot of Aston's shape in there. Look at the rear hips and window line. Very V8 Vantage.
