AMS TX2K11 recap with 9.10 Drag and Dyno Video!!!

We now have available…video from the TX2K11 event of Tim Sanders’ Alpha 12 Dyno Run as well as video of the record et pass of 9.1@159.97mph.

FRIDAY
Sanders’ Alpha 12 performed exceptionally well on Hennessey’s Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer Thursday. The car managed to stun the crowd that had gathered early on in the day as it lost traction and spun the tires throughout its two runs (laying down a coat of burnt rubber on the platform in the process). With all the power the car was producing, there wasn’t an easy solution for strapping it down tight enough to prevent the tires from slipping on the rollers so we decided to add more weight. When this failed, Ivan and Chris opted to pull the car off the dyno and wait to see if another GT-R would be able to best it before adding additional weight and re-strapping the vehicle. This never happened and at the end of the day, Sanders’ GT-R took 1st place in the GT-R dyno competition with 1069awhp. Had the car been able to gain traction on the dyno we think that it would have made over 1200whp.

SATURDAY
Aside from the dyno competition, a lack of good weather and open tracks around Chicago made the TX2K11 Event a great opportunity for us to bring our three Alpha 12 builds for some preliminary quarter mile track testing. This isn’t to say that we had no intention of racing the cars in competition if testing went perfect but since this was the first time bringing any of the Alpha 12s to the strip, we definitely wanted some time during the test and tune sessions to ensure they would perform safely and flawlessly. We wish to emphasize this because some have questioned why trap speed was only 159mph. This was still a test run at a low setting and was not done at the car’s full potential. As Chris stated, the Alpha 12 has so much more left to give. The current engine management using only the COBB was not sufficient to provide the results that we needed for the weekend. Instead of risking any harm to the car or driver we opted to remove the cars from the event and get them back to Chicago to make the necessary changes. While a limitation has been found, a solution is already in the works, and is not of any concern for current or future AMS Alpha package owners.

And as you may already know by Chris’ previous posts, during the test and tune sessions , he uncovered a limitation on the stock ECU that was previously undetected when running on our dyno alone. Chris is currently working with Thistle & Cobb to have a solution soon. Considering that this was the initial track testing phase of the Alpha 12, the outcome was still very much a success. Sander’s Alpha 12 was able to fire off a 9.1 ET and we were able to learn more about the GT-R’s stock ECU.

Another memorable moment of the day was the ALPHA 12 Equipped GT-R owned by Tim Sanders breaking the existing 60-130 record convincingly with a 3.58 second V-box verified run. This was again during the 9.10 test pass as shown in the video above. According to the 6speedonline records it looks to be an impressive time: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...mile-list.html We hope to get all the ALPHA 12 cars to the track soon to improve on both numbers.

We will have more updates on the Alpha 12 as the weather gets warmer and the tracks open up here in the Chicago area.

Congrat! I saw the pass and figured you'd hit 8's before the weekend was done.

would of loved to hit it but the Cobb software issues prevented that from happening.
