2011 Subaru WRX Gets STI Wide-Body

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX to Get STI Wide-body : Auto News

After missing the mark in 2009, Subaru continues to add higher levels of performance to the WRX, bumping the power output to 265-hp in 2010 and now announcing that for 2011 all WRX models will come with the STI’s wide-body. And it’s not just for show either. Starting in 2011, those flared fenders will make room for a track that is 1.5-inches wider in both the front and rear. Inside each fender a set of 17×8-inch wheels come mounted with wider 235/45/17 tires – which can only add to the all-wheel drive grip.

In addition, the WRX also gets a new front lip and larger blacked-out grille and air intakes, not to mention the addition of the STI’s rear subframe bushings. Subaru will continue to offer the WRX both as a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback.

“The new wide-body designs mark another major step on the continuous evolution of the WRX to give driving enthusiasts an even more compelling all-wheel drive performance package,” said Tom Doll, executive VP of Subaru of America.

Subaru is likely to officially unwrap the 2011 Impreza WRX at the New York Auto Show next week and we’ll be on hand to bring you plenty of photos, with live coverage starting March 31st.

I hope there is a HP upgrade as well. It has been stuck around 300 for a while.

Why even bother with the STI anymore when the WRX is just barely behind it in power?

Ugly. ^^ I 110% agree with you Alex. There is barely any difference between the WRX and the STI now. I hope I can find a 06-07 STI if not looks like I will get the EvoX.

Why bother with the STI instead of the WRX?

Then buy a "Carrera 2" (by the way, GT3 body from 2011) because there is no reason
to bother with the GT3.

Yep, and you can tune + very conservatively mod a WRX to be significantly faster than a stock STI for much cheaper.

I think most STI owners get it for the "STI" badge (no offense).

Looks cool. I like this Subaru STI look. Just hope they join WRC again and keep up their creds.

The STi and WRX are completely different cars.

Your idea of "completely different", and the rest of the world's ideas as to "completely different",... are very much, completely different.
