Seriously, who buys a $70K+ car but doesn't have a garage to put it in? And why not wheel locks? Even if they can be defeated, it makes it that much more difficult and would deter more crooks than not. There are so many ways that owner rode the failboat...

Plenty of people have 100K+ cars without a proper garage/enclosed area...never understood that...

I will have you know that when I was going out with the crazy redhead ex who lived in Los Feliz right next to Chino training ground that is Marshall High, my then new E36 M3 was broken into IIRC three times with two separate failed hardwire attempt, and moldings all stolen.

I parked my car on the street because I didn't live there, and she herself didn't have a garage space in her apartment.

What can I say, I was young and dumb, and she was hot and very convincing for a young and dumb guy like me.

Andy - your situation is the only that makes sense... Besides, look at the neighborhood that GT-R is in. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my GTI there, let alone a GT-R.

Almost any wheel lock can be taken off with a large socket and a quick shot from a hammer. It really doesn't add any time to removing the wheels at all. Given that these guys were driving around with a car jack, I'm sure they had everything they needed to get those wheels as fast a pit crew.

As far as a garage, that is only useful if you never leave home. Here is his story:

"Me and my girl went to dinner.. Went inside to relax a bit and passed out in her bed... Woke up to that.. I dont leave the car out ever really."

That is not a big deal to some people.

Looks fine to me. I don't see why it is bad.

it's just a few grand, not a big deal. insurance will cover it too. hope no damage else where.

this is a scary feeling indeed. i had a neighbor's car jacked once and i think my car was safe only because it was covered.
