Post Nissan Responds to GT-R 'Ring Time Accusations

"Y'all can't drive"...

Nissan has responded to claims by Porsche that the Japanese company cheated by using non-standard, semi-slick tyres on its record run at the ‘Ring earlier this year. Porsche had bought a Nissan GT-R in the US to test claims that the car had become the fastest around that world famous track, and their cars beat the GT-R’s time. The two cars used were a 911 Turbo and a GT2. Now Nissan has given some free advice to the likes of Porsche.

“We are aware that several auto makers have purchased the GT-R for their own testing and evaluation,” said a statement from Nissan. “Like all GT-R customers, we recommend that any auto maker buying a GT-R should follow the recommended run-in procedures, service schedules and maintenance to ensure the maximum performance from their car. In addition, we offer performance driving courses for prospective and current GT-R owners to help them get the best performance from their car. We would welcome the opportunity to help any auto manufacturer with understanding the full capabilities of the GT-R.”

Additionally the contested rubber used is still in Nissan’s possession and is used for promotional purposes. An offer to view it is open to any non-believers. Nissan continued to say testing the GT-R with additional equipment and/ or non-standard modifications would be pointless to them. “The GT-R was designed from the start to be a supercar that could be driven anywhere, anytime and by anyone,” says chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno.

In fact, goes Nissan, had it not been for the extra 50kg or so of weight it carried in order to record the record lap run, the GT-R would have been even quicker. Is this the end of this spat of the giants?

Coming from someone that has driven one the way it was meant to be driven it is fast. 911 turbo fast, and it would not puzzle me if it hangs if not edges one out. I could not push it to it's limits because the car was not broken in but from what I have experienced it is serious. Very serious.

The neat part about the car is that you can be a inexperienced driver and the car almost corrects itself driving through a corner. If R mode is set on all 3 positions then with the G force indicator which is located at all 4 corners as well as under acceleration g force + braking g force and traction control the car will correct itself by taking power away and then re applying it once traction is regained almost like PSM but even better. Now a experienced driver will understand when to brake and then re apply and or roll on throttle at what point you are in the turn or being able to read it and find the apex. The car is balanced but feels even heavier in the steering wheel then the turbo. Those that have driven a GT3 or RS as well as a Turbo will understand what I am talking about. You get much more feedback in the wheel when the car has AWD from the power being distributed through those front wheels even though it's only around 20% of the cars power.

You can't throw this car around like a GT3 or RS and have it snap back in, you do have to man handle it a bit with the AWD and it comfortable, I am 6 3' 230 and fits great.

I would take a GT3 RS, GT3, GT2, R8, and Turbo in a second over the GT R though for the record. In that order.

No disrespect to owners of the Nissan, but whether it's faster or slower, I still don't like the way it looks.

I wonder with that record run the GT-R did, was VDC turned off to launch the car initially? If so they voided the warranty! Jokes..jokes...

BTW, a customer of ours brought one by to show us and it is a very big car. Ford Mustang big, if not bigger! It amazes me that it can perform with the much lighter 911 Turbo/GT2 and Vettes with its huge weight disadvantage and size. Even the engine sits really high up which is not ideal at all for any sports car. Technology overrules the laws of physics?
