What kind of car is that? I don't recognize this at all. US market only model?

It's a '97 Nissan 240sx (S14 Kouki). It was a North American and Japanese market vehicle, however in Japan they came with optional turbocharged engines stock.

They're fairly rare...the more common S14 Zenki (1995-1996) looks very similar and is more popular:
