Nice bike. You must go down some serious hills to make it worth having the discs on it.

Very close to nabbing a Kona CoilAir Supreme. Might happen sooner than I thought.

Are those avid bb7's mechanicals? If so, why such heavy low end brakes on such a badass lightweight bike? IS it lack of compatible roadie levers?

Regardless, the rest of that bike is P I M P!

That's Avid's new disc setup for road I think. Supposed to be pretty cool. I really don't think you need hydraulic for road either. I'd like to hear how it performs!

A friend of mine had said that as well but I had read a bit about this one and decided to give it a shot. The Santa Cruz will have to wait I suppose. I'm looking forward to riding it though, that is for sure.

IMO, the best racing xc/trail bikes are made by the big 3, Cdale/Spec/Trek. I think of santa cruz, kona, intense, etc are geared towards reliability and over built frames than light and sharp.
AFAIK Kona doesn't make a carbon frame yet, they seem to be an alright value however.

That's just not true. Across the board weights are similar between comparable frames. For instance the spesh epic carbon is 5.8 and the intense carbine is 5.5.

I do agree that the mass market brands really do make a good bike. But I test rode a spesh SX trail before buying my intense SS. Both were good, but machine welds vs. handmade and the rest of the attention to detail tells the tale. Look at the bikes in person some time and you'll see.
