2015 Porsche GT3 RS Comes Into Focus

A few months ago when the all-new 911 GT3 was finally revealed to the world, the "harder-core" fans shifted their attention almost immediately to thoughts of the next-gen RS. We knew right away the 991 GT3 RS was in the works, as confirmed by Andreas Preuninger, but were in the dark regarding the exact specs and performance the badder GT3 will deliver.

What we do know is the purists will still be up in arms when then the new RS is revealed, as the lack of a third pedal will be immediately apparent, just like its non-RS sibling. Preuninger has been quoted saying the new PDK transmission offers more involvement than the previous manual options, and that the steering on the new GT3 is at least as good as the legendary GT3 RS 4.0’s, so then we must ask ourselves just how good will the new RS be?

Those who love all things wide at the rear of their Porsches, will be happy to know the new RS is expected to be fitted with the extra-wide 911 Turbo body, which is about an inch wider than the GT3/Carrera 4 body.

Power still remains a mystery, but Automobile and other publications have laid out predictions that the new RS could get a production version of the 4.0-liter engine featured in Porsche’s latest 911 RSR, or may get the current GT3’s 3.8-liter engine with some mild tweaking for more power. Considering the new GT3 cranks out 475 hp, we'd expect the new RS to churn out at least 515hp, which should help it nail 0-60 in 3 Seconds flat.

Some additional upgrades from the standard GT3 will be tweaked aero bits, such as an adjustable rear wing, and of course a stiffer, more track-focused suspension tuning. To keep you frtohing at the bit, check out our review of the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 here -> Teamspeed Drives the New GT3

and get a shorter final drive for tighter gear ratios...
Someone is confused with that remark. Changing the R&P does not affect the spacing of the ratios (same rev drop on upshift).
