The buyers are basically paying the R&D costs for Porsche. All that new tech will be part of the Porsche line 5-6 years from now, but the costs can be subsumed by some of the buyers of the 918 and speed things up. Think of it as a street-legal analogue to what Ferrari does with its FXX and 599XX programs...
