Geneva 2012: RUF's RGT-8 Is The V-8 911 You Never Knew You Always Wanted
#41
Just as Alpinas cars are always a tad below the //M cars in terms of power output
But Porsche and V8s are not a new thing...but I can`t get warm to those old "Trannies"

Well, Ruf has developped this engine already a few years ago..so Porsche had all the time in the world to do something similar. Im not sure when you say "8 cylinder first" what you mean..8 cylinder will in the 918 from the RS Spyder..finally again a Racing engine in a Porsche Road car
. 991 GT3 and GT2 will use 9A1 engine..despite the V8 speculation...
I think a V8 will come later..450HP can also be tweaked out from the 991 engine..no need for an V8

Hmm...im quite sure you - we will NOT see a V8 in an 991 produced by Porsche soon..I bet you a few beers on that one
By the way, why do you think RUF developped its own engine..and didnt rely on the 9A1 engine...?
I´m sure some people at Porsche will now panic a bit..because Im quite sure the RUF engine is better for track use then a 9A1..
Porsche should have tried to develop a real "racing engine" for the upcoming 991 GTs...RUF has done it and all my respect to him..

Oh yes they did! It's their own bespoke design; took years of development and testing. Apparently 45kg lighter than the flat-6 and lower center of gravity. Sounds awesome, too:

I tried to buy that engine when I first started my project in 2010. RAC in Texas told me that RUF wouldn't sell it to me. I've since spoken to more well informed people and apparently I could have bought it. Oh well. I guess i'll have to settle for my lightened 4.0 gt3 with individual throttle bodies.

during my visit, it was suggested at the time that this motor would eventually be made available as a crate engine. to me that makes sense. Imagine the R&D cost of building an engine from a clean sheet of paper. then estimate how many Ruf VIN cars are actually sold. the economics simply don't add up.
Estonia told me last week that the RT35 starts at around 245k euro, or just over 300k USD. of course once you start going crazy with options, sky's the limit (just like Porsche).
still i would think you'd be quite OTT if your RT35 was specced to cost 600k USD
regardless, they are expensive toys, and you do need to be a massive P-car and Ruf fanatic, when a true next gen supercar like the MP4-12C costs less than 300k USD optioned out.
