I am afraid I must disagree .
Even if Porsche could defy the laws of physics please remember the technology is what is available TODAY . The car is designed now .
You will never be able to do things in a heavy 4wd car that you can in a light 2wd car , its the whole concept thats flawed . There is no call for an economical, heavy , hybrid 4wd supercar . Why not use a kers type thing if you insist on using new tech ? why in the name of god use a full blown hybrid that can drive this car in eco mode ?
look how fast the battery in our mobile phones are improved , by the time the car is out they will already be obsolete .

That's all that needed changing.

The 959 was the greatest..... the Carrera GT is a wonderful and awesome car but in terms of Porsche history it was a failed LeMans project which utilized existing technology and held minimal bearing on future Porsche models... the 959 set the development tone and influence for the 964, 993, and 996 models.... what did the Carrera GT contribute this far? Center lock wheels? Don't take me wrong, this is not Carrera GT bashing, just putting history in place...

Not to beat down the gtr but weren't they asked to replicate that time by Porsche with a stock gtr and Nissan wouldn't conform. I thought they discussed that Nissan brought in a totally different car than stock, gearing shocks and tires?

Made your mind up on the GT3 already or you'll give it a pass?

As far as design influences on subsequent cars, the 959 did aesthetically and mechanically influence cars that followed (styling, AWD), but not in a earth shattering way as far as tech involved. The Carrera GT stands by itself in terms of its tech used...CF subframes, CF monocoque, extensive use of magnesium, first use of forged magnesium wheels in a production car, in-board suspension, integral casting of oil tank, all CF panels. Non of that has seen much use in a production car YET, but thats simply because the collective use of those components was so far ahead of its mass production time.
Both cars set a benchmark when they came out. Both will always be considered supercars. To suggest that one is better than the other misses the fact that each is a stand alone demonstration of the best Porsche had to offer at those points in the companys history. Finally, give the CGT design elements a little more time to show up. PDK transmission was designed in the 60's by Porsche engineers...used in the 956 race car in the 80's...and finally used in a production car in the new millenium. Some stuff Porsche makes is way ahead of its time in terms of mass production integration
