Two Races, Two Podiums and a Hard Charger for MGM at Mosport

Mosport, Ont. Can. (July 26, 2011) - Marvin Gilbert Motorsport's (MGM) drivers Peter Collins in the #4 Porsche GT3 Cup car and Richard Zahn in the #71 had outstanding performances at the IMSA GT3 Challenge by Yokohama Series races at Mosport International Raceway. Peter Collins was on the podium for both Gold Class races and Richard Zahn joined him on the podium by earning the Hard Charger award in Sunday's Gold class race.

In Friday's qualifying session, Collins qualified third in the Gold class with a lap of 1:25.771 which ended up being just .17 of a second off the pole. In Saturday's race, Collins started third in class and finished there for a spot on the podium. In the Sunday race, Collins started second due to setting the second fastest race lap in Saturday's Gold class race and finished third again.

"The second race was really the highlight of the whole weekend for me. Mitch Landry and I were nose to tail for the entire race. He got by me on the first lap and it took me about 10 laps to get back by him. He was right behind me for the next 19 laps until I got loose in 5b and he got by me. My team came on the radio right as that happened and said there were 2 laps left. I just told myself that after racing that hard and consistent, I wasn't going to finish off the podium. I put my head down and on the next lap Mitch and I went deep into turn 3, came out side by side and we crested the hill in turn 4 side by side which was very interesting. I backed out to stay out of the marbles and Mitch bobbled in turn 5 giving me the chance to dive under and get by for good. I bet we did 25 straight laps within 2 or 3 tenth's of the same time," said Collins.

Richard Zahn also had a very impressive performance during Sunday's race and earned a set of Yokohama tires by winning the Hard Charger Award for the Gold Class. “Mosport is one of the most challenging and higher risk tracks in the circuit. High G corners that requires telepathy by the drivers that leaves one feeling like Luke Skywalker hanging on by the nails. Coming from the back of the pack to finish 6th while Winning the Yokahoma Hard Charger award was awesome, but I give real credit to our team at MGM Motor sports, David Murray, Ian Rosso. Marty Gilbert and team really put our cars together with the best possible strategy bringing our team a 3rd place (Peter Collins) and a Hard Charger…Racing is all about perfection. Team perfection...anything else is just ego...” Zahn said.

Team owner Marty Gilbert was very pleased with the team's results. "The guys did a great job! Back to back podium finishes and both drivers in the winner's circle, that certainly is a great weekend."

Peter Collins agreed, "I can only do a couple of the races this year so I've got to make the most of my opportunities. After our terrible luck at Sebring, this was very satisfying. To come to an incredible track like Mosport, race this level of competition and come away with a top three qualifying effort and two race podiums is pretty incredible. Marty and the guys at MGM kept giving me a better car every session and I can't thank them enough."

Great job nothing like winning free tires in the series by driving the tread off of them

Good job!

Hi Everyone,
Yes, I am with the MGM team - some days, I am lucky enough to be one of the drivers. Other days, I keep myself occupied taking photographs at the races and writing about our experiences! I am a newbie to your forums, so I figured this might be a fun first post to share with everyone.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Denise
