GT3 RS 4.0 Silverstone laps [VIDEO] Hi guys!
Seems someone spotted my review on Pistonheads so here's a video from the launch event too. Go easy, Walter Röhrl's day job isn't under threat in terms of the driving but as if the intimidation factor wasn't enough on its own they put Richard Attwood in the passenger seat as my instructor. Nice guy but having a Le Mans winner beside you doesn't do anything to calm the nerves!
Interesting too - his driving style is much more smooth and languid than some of the other PDCs (Porsche Driving Consultants as they're called at the Silverstone customer centre) which perhaps reflects his background as an endurance racer. So he was very into longer, smoother braking and higher gears. His advice to short-shift after the chicane (c. 00:51) was a good example - I'd been going through and maxing out 3rd but with that shift and the 4.0's extra torque it was well into 5th along the straight and, as I said in the PH review, an additional 15-20mph into the next corner!
