Is this normal on the GT2 RS?

I know the GT2 RS has a single mass flywheel, but there is a slight reoccurring whine that I am getting at idle and low RPM. Is this normal?

The other thing that I noticed is, if you are accelerating gently between 1000rpm and 3500rpm there is tiny engine vibration. Once again I assume it is an attribute from that type of flywheel. Do the others have the same?

It's all that depreciation and hurt reputation which causes it. The car knows....

It is called "flywheel chatter". Most lightweight flywheels will exhibit a bit of chatter. Some race shops will use a different fluid combo to increase viscosity and decrease the chatter.

Mike, I do not own a GT2RS. But I do have a 997TT with a Sachs racing clutch and lightweight flywheel.

The flywheel definitely chatters a lot at idle and at low RPMs. The chatter gets worse as the car gets warmed up and is at is worse when at full temp.

It also chatters more when not in sport mode and when the air conditioning is on.

But this little noise was well worth the upgrade. The car revs up so much faster with the LWFW.

Now, I don't know if what you are experiencing is LWFW chatter. But if what I am hearing in my car sounds familiar to you, then it is likely totally normal.

But another GT2RS owner should probably take it from here.

Hope that is helpful.

Good call! Never thought about that. GazillionRPM could be onto something

Thanks Harvey, that's what I suspected. Just wanted to reconfirm.

Hi Dana,
Thanks for your feedback. I think this is definitely what I am experiencing. Just didn't think the chatter would be that obvious The car does pick up RPM like crazy especially for a turbocharged car. Drove the regular GT2 which has the dual mass and it feels like a different motor all together.

The chatter on my car can get loud enough that - at stop lights - people will roll down their window and tell me something is wrong with my car!

After you drive with a LWFW for a while you forget what a difference it makes. But the Sachs Stage II setup I got was probably the best mod I have ever done. Worth every penny.

Now go drive that thing like you stole it Mike!
