GT3 "burping" coolant after being parked?

Hi all,

Tracked my car (997.1 GT3, 100% stock) over the weekend for the first time after a few months. it was a very hot day. only did a couple of laps, maybe no more than 5. drove her hard still on the way home, and foolishly parked in the garage and shut down without a proper cool down.

i normally slow down and take it easy the last few miles before getting home, but i was late for an appointment...

parked in the garage and everything fine. came back out about 30 mins later and noticed coolant (red fluid) all over the floor. assumed i'd blown a hose or something, perhaps because pressure had built up?

checked the fluid level in the reservoir this morning, and WTF... its at normal level. not quite at max, but well above min level. and when i rechecked the coolant spill under the car, there's quite a lot of it, but certainly nowhere near as much as you'd expect if it was some massive leak.

tech guy (extremely experienced German chap) said its possible that some coolant may have been forced out of some 1.5 bar pressure valve because of the heat. but of course he'd have to check to be sure.

any ideas?

Surely was the heat. Just let it cool before shutting off and won't happen again.

My RS did that. It was a hose that had a failed seal when really hot. Check it good.
With the 997.1 GT3, there is a big recall on a hose fitting or something. Porsche is paying to fix if you have trouble. It is major, as they have to drop the engine just to fix the hose. I would think you might be a victim soon of that. My buddy has one and his failure occurred on the track. Needless to say, he spun a few times from the coolant hitting the track. Also, the heat from the car caught the infield on fire.

porsche hoses are attached with glorified glue - talk to Sharkwerks for a permanent fix (before you get stranded on the side of the road like, uhh, me.)

thanks for the input guys. yeah, its definitely a leak. drove the car to the dealer today (about 2 miles trip). the coolant was dripping out from under the engine when i got there, and from normal level when i left home, it was about 25% left in the reservoir when I got to Porsche. no "low coolant warning" though... what's up with that? maybe it wasn't quite low enough to trigger it? but i'd have thought that the level being that far below "min" would have triggered something...
