TPC Racing UTCC Race Weekend Recap!
A huge thanks goes out to NASA and the guys at Grassroots Motorsports. We were absolutely blown away with the amount of professionalism and the overall organization of the event.
Grassroots Motorsports is powered by a bunch of gear heads and car junkies, these guys aren’t doing it for a paycheck, they do it because they are enthusiasts and very proud of their work.
Track temps at VIR were in the scorching 110's!! And with air temps in the 100s… These conditions were less than ideal ~ putting all contenders 2-3 seconds off of their best times. Considering the conditions our cars still put down good lap times and we were quite proud of our showing!
Our 993 GT2 Evolution Race Car worked extremely well. The car ran a 1:55(our record @ VIR is a 1:53 from last Fall). Since the last time the car was out, we upgraded the front brakes to modern Motorsport Brembo Caliper with larger front rotors… We were P1 in the first and second outing. We thought we had it in the bag but a big-cubed-engined tubed-framed Dodge “badged” full competition racecraft pulled some quick laps underneath us in the later sessions. This was a ridiculously fast car! Still, we were proud to represent our brand with a P2 finish in “Uber Varsity Class” and the quickest Porsche of the day.
Our Blitzkrieg 997 GT2 also made an impressive showing at its first time at VIR… This is a car that you can comfortably drive daily to work in and put down serious lap times on the track on weekends. Retaining the factory PASM function is the key to making this possible. We reworked the factory PASM dampers, revised spring rates, and chassis setup. With very limited time to prepared this car we were happy with a best lap of 2:05 in such blazing hot track conditions… Compare this to the 2:03 that our Blitzkrieg 997TT street car ran in the Excellence article from last fall. The car was way quicker and better balanced than stock but there’s more seconds to shave off. Some spring rates changes and sway bar adjustment should get us down to the 2:00’s. The winner in this “Shop Varsity” Class was a factory backed ACR-X Viper. Another incredibly worthy competitor and a super fast car.
The greatest part of the event was the showing by Accumoto Motorsport and their Turbo Cayman RS. This Cayman S, Like the one that we used as a shop car for quite a while, features our Stage 2 Turbo system(good for 475whp @ .33Bar and 100 octane) and our stage 4 suspension for the 987 Chassis(JRZ RS Pros, TPC Race Series Swaybars and all appropriate links) and the TPC Racing Track Pack VOS. The car was remarkably fast, putting down a 2:09 lap in ridiculously hot conditions and running lighter “street friendly” spring rates. We are incredibly proud of the Accumoto Motorsport team for such a brilliant run!
We are very excited to continue development on all of our platforms especially the GT2. Special thanks to Hoosier and Accumoto Motorsport for their assistance with the event!
