Looks like the 918 Spyder can achieve a better time. Also, let's not forget that the car was rolling on street-tires and not slicks.
Here is the video for those who haven't watched it already:

Short Motor Trend interview with Matthias Muller about 918 on Paris Motor Show:
With Porsche making quite a fuss about its upcoming 918 Spyder hypercar, MT naturally asked the company’s boss about the recent 7:14 Nordschleife lap.
“One year ago, we had a target of 7:20-7:22 or something. Last week one of our engineers drove one lap in 7:14. The record (ed’s note: for production cars) is 7:11”, noted Muller, adding that “I suppose by the end of the year we will have a new record at the Nürburgring.”
He even went as far as saying that the hybrid-powered supercar could set a sensational time: “If we’re lucky, it will be under 7 minutes… but, I don’t know, we’ll see.”

Hi Milanno,
thanks for the info..but the CEO himself should know that it wasnt an engineer driving the 7:14..it was one Porsche best drivers !
I personally dont think that they squeeze much more out of it..at this level every potential second is a fight against windmills..i mean almost.
Below 7 min..no - its too heavy for that - and you would a real downforce car..
Lets see..I bet the final thing will be around 7:10...

The latest news is that the 918 is about 75% finished with development. Also, that 7:14 lap time was from a standing start, and it isn't even like Marc Lieb was trying to go for a record. With a flying lap, and that extra 25% of complete parts, I think a time under 7:10 is certainly feasible. But then again, all that a 'ring time entails is bragging rights.
The Porsche Test driver that set the time was Philipp Arnold.

Do you mean in the video? Then yes, but he was not at the wheel when the time was set.
"Helping us wrap our fingers around those extraordinary numbers, and get a better understanding of the whole “hybrid supercar” personality, Porsche allowed us to take an eye-opening test ride with a factory pilot, Philipp Arnold, in one of its development mules in Germany’s Nürburg countryside. (Interestingly enough, it was Arnold who was behind the wheel of the 918 prototype when it set the Nordschleife record.)"- Michael Harley RSS feed
