GMG enters ALMS for 2010 Full Season- NEWS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Global Motorsports Group announces 2010 entry in ALMS GT-C -
February 18, 2010 (Santa Ana, Calif.) - For the past several seasons, Orange County, California-based Global Motorsports Group has defined European car performance in the competitive sprint racing of Speed World Challenge. While it will still continue with that program, GMG is expanding its racing operations to include a full time entry in the new Grand Touring Challenge class in the American Le Mans Series.
Bret Curtis will be partnered by James Sofronas in the No.32 GMG / Spectra Resources Porsche GT3 Cup, which will feature a full line of performance parts developed by Global Motorsports Group.
Curtis competed in several series in 2009 in a Porsche GT3 Cup, including his first American Le Mans race in the season finale at Laguna Seca, in which he finished fifth in the GT-Challenge class while driving with Sofronas. Curtis also competed in the Patron GT3 Challenge in 2009, and has also competed in the Pirelli Drivers Cup and in Southern California Porsche Owners Club events.
Sofronas, multiple race-winner in SCCA's World Challenge and runner-up in last year's championship, is considered one of the country's premier Porsche drivers. The owner of GMG is also a veteran of several endurance races, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and is looking forward to the challenge of competing in the country's premier endurance racing championship.
"The move into the American Le Mans Series is very exciting for Bret, for myself, and for everyone at GMG," said Sofronas. "We competed in the ALMS event at Laguna Seca, and as a driver and team owner it was a very good experience which ultimately led to our decision to compete in the series this season. For the drivers, it will be a great challenge, and will also allow us to further develop our line of performance parts for the Porsche 997."
Curtis and Sofronas will take the wheel of the No.32 GMG / Spectra Resources Porsche GT3 Cup at the ALMS Sebring test this weekend, February 22-23.
