MB did this for a few years and I think (as stated) BMW does as well. Since it has an electronic dipstick they felt it wasn't needed.
-that is until they figured out the electronic ones aren't that reliable. Oooops. LOL

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't understand why anyone would get rid of something simple and proven like a physical dipstick... Especially when the electronic alternative can lead to catastrophic failure if the device itself fails.
I am embarassed and somewhat proud I was able to derail the entire thread with a single post. Sorry GT3, it happens.
