Rattling Sound: 2010 GT3

Hi all. I've been enjoying my new GT3 quite a bit -- the Pgh weather has been in the high 60's all last week which is highly unusual, but perfect for breaking in the car before the winter months set it. Have about 400 miles on her now.

Anyhow, I've noticed a metallic, sort of rattling sound from the engine compartment when I:
* rev match with a throttle blip on downships (more pronounced from 3rd to 2nd, and 2nd to 1st, than say, 4th to 3rd).
* roll on and off the throttle in higher gears in the 2K-3K RPM band

It's a very difficult sound to describe. It's only heard in the 2K-3K or so RPM range I think. For example, when I rev the engine in the 4K - 6K range I hear nothing but the beautiful engine sound.

Anyone experience this? I'm going to have my dealer look at it when it's in next week for my one and only mod on this car: white rear center console -- thanks bumperplugs. .....famous last words

cheers

Taylor i'd stop by the dealer (stoppie no pun intended) just to make sure no metallic fragments are floating around where they should't be. Better to be safe then sorry if it is that noticeable and just tell them you want a panamera loaner car so you can review it for us

^^Thanks. I plan to bring it in a week or so from now, so I hope putting, say, another 100 miles on the car till then is fine.

I'm all for a panamera loaner! Porsche of Olmsted had a beutiful one on the lot -- they really do look amazing in person (versus like crap in 2D) IMHO. It's really an impressive car.

Knowing very little about this car mechanically, the tinny vibration noise at certain RPMs would lead me to think a loose heatshield somewhere?

Good luck, hope it's something easy!

Don, I'll ask Jim if he heard anything during PDI.

Don-

Jim just told me that the Vario-cams are louder in the 3.8 GT3. Both he and Ben noticed it when PDI'd the car. He said when the cams are adjusting from hi to low; that could be it.

Thanks Stoppie. Iwas thinking the varios myself. I had a feeling it was something normal for this car and I happen to have a very critical ear - perhaps most would not have noticed (then again, we are talking about Porsche owners ) .

So how 'bout that turbo pan loaner anyways

Only rattles I'd expect if I drove a 2010 GT3 would be the one coming from my teeth...

^^^ one would think that . This car has lots of rattles that come and go from strange places. Owners manual even calls out where to expect certain rattles and "warns" this car is built for performance over luxury. I happen to love the noisy quirks of this car besides the crazy engine roar. My love for a car is inversely proportional to my wife's admiration for the car. For the record, my wife absolutely hates it.

The more a woman hates your car is directly proportional to how manly your car is. Well done.
