GT2 Red Devil
#6
some slightly better pictures, with the camera phone. I wrote a small review on rennlist forum. here it is.
Having just come from a 997tt this is the car that is easiest to compare it to.
Engine:
-50hp extra is there but not hugely obvious. From 0-60 gt2 feels slower than tt, but only because the steering feel is more responsive in the gt2. In the TT the burst of speed felt more violent because I felt less in control. Above 100, I can feel the extra horses clearly, but this is probably due to better aerodynamics due to lowered height rather than extra power.
-Engine feels more responsive.
-Distinct sound when turbos spool down, not something I heard in the 997 tt.
-Uses less petrol… probably due to aerodynamics above all else. Did 350-400miles on full tank at 100mph average.
-Turbo lag, as in tt, is almost non existent compared to my 993 gt2. the power is therefore absolutely useable.
Exhaust:
-I was expecting nothing but was very very happily surprised. it sounds great through the tunnels. Roaring and loud…. But will never be a gt3 sound sadly.
Gear box:
-Thank you Porsche for the longer gears but with shorter throw.. perhaps this is also why the 0-60 acceleration felt slower than tt.
-Heavier clutch, but what is wrong with a free work out.
Driving feel:
-Lowered weight is key difference.. feels more nimble, brakes better, turn in etc etc… the 150kg or so (300 pounds) saving makes a big difference.
-Much better high speed stability.
-Much more precise, no uncertainty.
-The back does shift a little under acceleration in the corners, nothing uncomfortable though. Only the track will tell.
-From two corners it felt like over and understeer were very well balanced.
Ride:
-Firm, but by no means uncomfortable (on the roads I drove on), the seats are really excellent. Apart from possible problems with lower front spoiler do not be discouraged by the more sporty imagine. It is exactly as comfortable/easy to potter around town in. the 993gt2 feels like a plastic sledge compared to this.
My overall impressions were that it feels much more sporty than the tt to me, thank goodness, as this is why I bought it. The power increase was not overwhelming, but this is probably because the car is so well balanced. I am glad I can handle the car but I would have liked there to be a more noticeable difference in power from the tt. After all it is always nice to get in to car that feels too fast and then get used to it (the 993 gt2, still feels too fast). I think this car can handle many more horses (someone else will have to try though).
I love it and glad to be back to gt porsches. If the gt3s and rs are very similar (with complete adjustability, the 30-50kg difference can't be That noticeable) but with natural aspiration I can now understand why everybody here loves their cars so much.

Nicely done, I think its just missing the rear centre console in carbon and the dashboard package. Whilst at it I would add the gt2 lettering on the sides as well.
Congratulations on the car, its tastefully ordered.
