997 GT3RS Gen 2 News
Apoloies if ths already known but I was lucky enough to visit the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone in the UK last week for a exclusive preview of the new GT3 gen 2.
Andreas Preuninger the boss of the GT3 project was there and gave us a walk round and talk about the new GT3.
He was asked about the new GT3 RS and said it is very close to completion so should be unveiled by the end of the year.
Apparently the gap between it and the Gen 2 GT3 will be a lot wider than the gap was between the Gen 1 cars (as a result of owners requests). He said they were targeting the new car at the sort of buyer who would drive it to a track on a Saturday then put back in the garage until the following weeks track session.
Nothing specific I know but if the new GT3 is anything to go by the new RS will be something very special.
Some pics.

That's very cool news! One would hope the GT3 RS would get a proper lightening a la the Scuderia with more parts made out of CF.
Great photos as well. That white rally-spec 911 is awesome! Do you have any info on it?

Thanks for the update.
Looking forward to details.
Glad to hear Porsche is listening to requests. That car sounds like it will be quite the toy/performer!!! I wonder what it will have besides wider track (F+R), a little more power (hinted with Titanium exhaust and bigger intake vent in prototype testing), LW flywheel, bigger wing/lip, etc..
Probably things like sport seats standard, different wheels, lower final drive ratio...

No other details really guys but good to hear confirmation from the man at the top that there will be a Gen 2 RS.
I would imagine a lot of weight saving over the GT3 with a lot more motor racing parts on the car. Possibly even the option of a sequential gearbox? It sounds like it will be a far more hardcore RS than the previous versions.
Re the white car its an ultra rare 911 SC RS. Only 20 made and the white car in the pics is apparently one of 2 which were made as road cars (all the rest being rally cars).
Some more info on them here:
Porsche 911 SC RS
Sadly we didnt get to drive the GT3 as it was a pre production car. We did get to go out on the Porsche test tracks with an instructor for an hour or so in a 997 Carrera S then a Gen 2 Cayman S PDK and manual. They have an alpine handling track, low grip handling track and two water sprinkled areas which replicate driving on sheet ice. The second area has a metal kick plate which throws the car off line as soon as you hit it to simulate loss of control.
The Silverstone facility is one of the few Porsche has anywhere in the world (not even Germany apparently).
