If you didn't want to stick with the factory titanium canister, why didn't you guys make a new one out of Ti or Inconel to keep weight to a minimum?

It's an interesting package and great for drag racing and freeway pulls, but to be honest, I like the flexibility of VTG for windy roads and the track.

the stock muffler was just too restrictive when we tried to make the power. it was better to add alittle weight with the steel muffler and reduce the backpressure.

i disagree with your statement of this being a great package for drag racing. if you look at the dyno sheet, you will see how linearly the power comes in. it is absolutely one of the best all around street cars i have ever driven that can be even further appreciated on a road course.

So if the stock Akrapovic exhaust is too restrictive, couldn't you have fabricated one in Inconel or Titanium? In fact, I believe Manthey got Akrapovic to make a new exhaust to their specification for GT2.

As for linearity and the dyno sheet, the only real way to gauge the package's effectiveness is through lap times. I don't really see how even the best ball bearing turbos (Garrett GT series) will have less turbo lag than a properly tuned VTG car, with all other things being equal.

So far from what we've seen on tuned GT2 applications, the top tuners are sticking with VTG Turbos. The 1:06 time achieved at Hockenheim, which set a new record for the Tuner GP, was with a larger VTG package by TechArt.

I am also not totally convinced that you could really use most of that 800hp on a road course. Even the fastest 996 Turbos prepped for the 24H Nurburgring were running "only" 700bhp.

The modded GT30R turbos Tym is using don't sacrifice anything compared to the VTG. These aren't off-the-shelf units, and Tym will be posting a "why it's better" sort of article on the Switzer site in the next few days.
