CAR is back to competing with Top Gear instead of doing their own thing. Evo has stayed true - it's unfortunate that Meaden and Bovingdon started DR.

Very true. It has always baffled me that Top Gear (the show) is so good, and Top Gear (the mag) is so cheesy. I eagerly await the arrival of Evo every month, and I have also started reading the (new) Performance Car, which is also very good. DR is very intriguing and I wish them all the best, but I think it's harder for them to build up anticipation when they let the big stories trickle out, but of course they do get the jump on the print monthlies with hot stories like the GT3 drive.

All the more reason for you to get one (you're in the market, no?); if you have the means, then you must!

Despite the fact that I can't shake this car from my head, I'm more in the market for a 997.1 GT3/3RS, don't know if I could justify the mk2 right now. However, I am going to post a thread to see how much you gentlemen think I could get for my 996TT. I'll do this tom. when I can get some pics.

The marginal difference between the 7.1 and 7.2 is probably not big enough to justify the price, at least if you're being rational. Chris Harris even says as much (more or less) when he notes that the new car doesn't feel faster than the old one.

However, I would still want the new one too! A used 7.1 GT3 RS could be a car you could hang on to for decades, and then sell at a significant profit. I think you'll see it along with the other seminal Porsches whenever Evo, Car, and the like do big Porsche comparos. In short, it will be highly sought after, much more so than the "regular" GT3.

I agree, however, which ever GT3 I eventually get is going to be modded into my dream track rat. No more track novices in Z06s and GTRs blowing by me. I'm looking at a couple GT3s and RS's at the moment and the prices are pretty good. I could get a RS take a bunch of stuff out and change (LSD, seats, new cage, etc...) and store the olds stuff until I want to sell it as stock.

My thinking is that I'll look into a mk2 GT3 in a few years after its been out for a while. I really don't see any reason to spend the extra money and buy a car like this new when its value will drop anyway.
