Post Porsche GT3 Cup S Released

Porsche has released official information on its new GT3 Cup S model, which is based on the regular road-going GT3 RS sportscar. The GT3 Cup S has been created solely for racing and the Weissach-developed and built vehicle is being built to compete in international championships, run in accordance with FIA GT3 regulations.

Much of the 3.6-litre boxer engine is identical to the engine used in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the international Carrera Cup championships. However, more power has been squeezed out of the unit by optimising engine electronics and modifying the exhaust system. The result is 20 more horsepower, taking total output to 440 hp (324 kW) at 8,000 rpm while maximum torque has also been increased by 10 Nm to 430 at 7,250 revs per minute.

The difference between the GT3 Cup S and the existing GT3 Cup is that the former is based on the GT3 RS while the later is based on the regular GT3. The Cup S sports wider wheels arches that can house bigger wheels, with the front rims being 10.5 inches wide and the rear rims coming in at 12 inches. The Cup S also has an adjustable front-splitter that generates more downforce at the front axle while the rear-wing is wider and positioned higher than the regular Cup version and this provides more downforce at the rear axle.

There are also a number of suspension components that have been lifted from the more powerful GT3 RSR, the car which races in the GT2 class at international long-distance championships. The brakes got the full treatment as well and have been adjusted to meet the demand of the increased power. What’s the price of this insane race car? The new GT3 Cup S costs 250,000 Euro, excluding VAT. Delivery to teams will start in April and just so that those who already have the standard GT3 Cup car don’t feel left out, Porsche will also be offering a kit to upgrade the 2007 Cup models to the GT3 Cup S standard.
