This is what i'm thinking too sadly. Comparing it to the LS which by looking at the recent design language that Lexus is producing, it doesn't seem to promising either

I'll bet you a rep point that it won't. Once we wrap our heads around it, we'll love it (unless they let the same team that styled the SL do this. Or sit next to the S-class team in the mess hall. Or draw breath in the the same county).
The current s-class wasn't exactly universally lauded as an appealing design when it was launched. To my eye, it's still terribly wheel-dependent, since the bulging fenders make anything less thatn '20s look miniscule.
Anyway. Looking very much forward to this.
