Arrow Spied Again: 2013 Mercedes S-Class w/VIDEO

Spied: 2013 Mercedes S-Class

Still wearing bulky quilted Camo, the new S-Class is starting to take shape

Our trusty Teamspeed spies spotted the upcoming 2013 Mercedes S-Class, taking in a few hot laps this morning at the Nürburgring. While the car is heavily camouflaged, it appears a little wider and longer than the current S-Class. Regardless, styling is expected to be influenced by the F700 concept of 2007.

Under the hood, we can expect Mercedes to introduce the new ‘MoVe' (modular V6- and V8 ) engines. While details are limited, the engines will feature direct injection and turbochargers. As previewed by the Vision S 500 plug-in hybrid concept, Mercedes will offer an S-class plug-in hybrid that will be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than six seconds while averaging at least 3.3 liters per 100 kilometer.

On the performance side, the 6.3-liter V8 from the S 63 AMG will be replaced by a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8. Despite this glimmer of good news, the V12s from the S 600 / S 65 AMG may be discontinued.

The new dashboard we are told will be a high-tech instrument panel with two wide LCD or plasma displays, one of which is replacing the conventional analogue instruments while the other is a multifunctional touchscreen to control climate, sat nav, entertainment and communication systems.

The new Mercedes Benz S-Class is set to arrive midway through 2012 and will be joined by a two-door coupe and possibly a convertible version.

Thanks for the post DJ.

I can't seriously think of any reason to test the S at Nürburgring. It seems the 'ring madness has got every manufacturer.

You obviously haven't read this then, have you?

It's the surface that allows them to test the ride in a very short distance. They can do one lap, and the info they gather is like they've covered 200km.

Always love the S class for some reason. Looking forward to a new benchmark.

+1 I gotta say- this current chassis really raised the bar on value for a Luxury Sedan at $100,000. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to NOT be impressed with anything Mercedes is putting out. Everyday I see a company driven with one thing in mind- being THE bench mark luxury automaker.

I'm not a 'big car' person. Never really liked them. But the S Class is a SWEET car. I do love driving one, especially on long distances. This new S- I'm a little worried. what with the current generation being so good....it'll be very very difficult to keep that winning streak going.

The S is my favorite big sedan. However, I only like the current gens. Their flaw is they never look good 5+ years down the road.
