Mercedes 500E Detailing

A 1992 500E returned to "as new" condition again. My customer is a enthusiast level detailer and likes to do his car himself, however the finish had became a little to much for him to correct.

On this job he only wanted me to correct the paint and do nothing else..... no wheel cleaning.trim, glass or interior work so I booked the car in and went to work. There was one problem that he wanted special attention payed to a bird dropping etch which required wet sanding and leveling to repair, but upon closer inspection there were three more spots on the car with the same issue just not as severe.

First pic here shows etching

Here is another angle showing the etching

After wool pad and foam compounding the problem is leveled away, not all bird poop marks can be corrected if the etching is to deep as to much paint would have to be removed making the finish to thin or in some cases damaged

Taped off the trunk lid to show 50/50 pics of correction

After the wool pad compounding stage

After foam compounding stage

After intermediate polishing, but not jewellled down yet

This pic shows the opposite side of the trunk lid, and there is a cluster of deep scratches in the middle

Entire trunk lid corrected

More examples of the marring on the c-pillar

All polishing steps completed except LSP not applied yet

Sun pics..........

Wow, the paint looks like new! How long did the exterior detail take you?

One of the best Mercedes built, I wish mb would go back to its prime days and build superior cars.

Just under 11 hours, there was quite a bit of marring and RIDS.

Excellent job!

And I LOVE this car! This was from an era when Mercedes was 10 years ahead of everyone else in terms of build quality and performance. Not to mention looks - Bruno Sacco drew this car, what, 25 years ago? And it still looks better than most cars today.
