Mercedes 300 SL Gull Wing spotted

Saw this when I was downtown in Frankfurt today and wanted to share.
I'm not that good at oldtimers and I know there are a lot of replicas of this car so I was wondering if anyone can confirm if this is the real deal or not.

If this happens to be a replica (which I strongly doubt), what do they usually base them on? This one has Historic licence plates, which indicates that it is indeed an oldie.

Most of the Gullwing cars you see are kits.

It looks like a nice restoration job. But there is no way to tell from those pics.

Most real ones are never driven.
