BMW i8 Prototype Caught Winter Testing

A production prototype of the BMW i8 hybrid supercar has been spotted by our Teamspeed spies during winter testing again. Lucky for us they had video camera in-hand this time around! The car spotted here still has quite a bit of camouflage, but we can see that the differences between the concept and the production version are rather minimal.

The i8 is expected to be a high-performance hybrid in addition to a dramatically-designed coupe. Acceleration to 60 mph should come in around the sub-five-second mark with a top speed of 155 mph. Being a hybrid it should be rather efficient as well, with the concept aimed at about 78 mpg.

The 2014 BMW i8 is due to arrive in production at BMW's Leipzig plant mid-2013, arriving in the first driveways in early 2014, at right around the $200,000 mark.

Reminds me of a R8/LFA.

 

It has something similar.

 

Whatever that spoiler-looking crap is over the trunk and back of the car, I don't like it.

Those taillights really couldn't have been any lower. But i am excited to see how this turns out.

 

The taillights aren't the definitive.

 

No they're not, but i figured that photos were posted so we could see how the prototype looks now, make remarks on its style, etc. A prototype is a protoype, i know that.

 

This thing will be freakin' fantastic !
