From Scott who works for BMW on GCZone

"We intended series production for the BMW 8er cabrio to rival the Mercedes SL but initial sales of the coupe were dire and then the recession began to set in. We also intended for a M8 Coupe as well but again these were axed at the last hour.

Both the 850i Cabrio and M8 Prototype can be found within BMW's Mobile Tradition collection."

Would've been classy as hell in the 90's... Wonder why they never made it, being that we never saw a M version of the coupe.

my father was hours away from picking up a rare red 6 speed 840i coupe back in the mid 90's to go along with his (pristine) red 635CSi coupe with M-package.

two respected 'Bahn Burners

The 6series coupe was cool, I remember my dad having a navy blue one and I was really sad when he traded it for a 7 series.

Ours was epic. we purchased it in '96 with 21k on the odo (km - not miles), and came with the full front splitter, trunk mounted spoiler, recaro 10 way power seats, and 5 speed manual on it from the factory.

The sentimental value that my brothers and I had carried with it was unknown to my mother when she sold it without telling us a year after our father had passed on.

the two things I must own before I die are another red 6'r and a 22' Donzi classic in white w/ blue stripes and a 502mag/bravo 1 combo

Yes its a great car for sure, I was a 635cs over here but it was high mileage and wasnt clean. For me if I wanted to get some cars of the 1990's it would be 3, I am not trying to be gready but I love to have a 928 GTS, SL600 and a F355s Berlintenna.

Great taste for sure - funny thing about the 8 series story I told about my father being hours away from purchasing it... He retracted his offer due to him finding a great deal on a 93GTS in white. Sadly the car did not pass the ppi and by the time my dad found out, the 840i had been claimed by another buyer.
