New SUV, welcome thoughts

Family SUV, 01 LX470 getting to end of its life as a dependable daily car. 175K mi

We need room, 4 wheel drive. Occasional off-roading, not heavy duty rock gardens, but 1-2 jaunts/yr that would stop a 4 wheel drive car on 4 season tires.

Cayenne too small, x5 not enough headroom, RR not reliable enough (all our dealers are 1 hr + away)

Down to

MB Gl450 or Gl350 (diesel)
LX570

considering Q7, but a little small.

MB drove ok, steering a little disconnected, decent acceleration, lots of doodads, at a price

Q7, ride was rough, but didn't have upgraded suspension, interior a little spartan

Haven't test drove the LX yet, but ours has been a real workhorse. New one has some improvements, but very similar car, less electronic fancy stuff than MB. Ours is slow, and handles like a truck, not sure how big a differnce the last 12 years has made, but will test drive one soon.

Comments? Experiences?

Thanks

I have an 09' GL450 and love it. I've had it for about 7 months now and it has been reliable and awesome to have. I'm not sure how much room you are looking for but I have 2 kids and it does the job. It's comfortable and plenty fast for the daily grind. I plan on upgrading to the new model in the next few years.

Been a fan of the LC/LX platform for a long time, but our current US market versions are just too expensive/big for what you get.....they've lost their way on that model a bit (of course rest of world gets some better options).

GX maybe? A bit ugly..... I like the MBZ GL too especially with the limited trail running you are doing.

I'm on my second Landrover, I must be lucky my Rovers have been more reliable than the Honda Pilot I previously owned. On my LR3 the only problem was an O2 sensor at 80,000 miles. My LR4 is a big step up interior wise, no problems yet but only 15000 miles.
