SR Presents: The Scion FRS Has Finally Arived
If you haven’t already read all the reviews, seen all the photos, this is the brand new 2013 Scion FRS; the successor to the Toyota AE86.
After spending some quality time with the FRS, we have really grown to love and admire this rear wheel drive machine. Right off the bat, the handling was immensely precise with no play in the steering. The car is so properly balanced, that you can enter and exit a corner at the exact same speeds. Acceleration was consistent through the power band with no hesitation from the low or high end. The steering wheel features no radio or cruise control buttons, and we love it like that. The steering wheel should be a place where the driver can connect with the car and the road with no distractions.
The seats featured elevated side bolsters to keep the driver in place through those high speed corners. The subtle two-tone scheme, creates a sportier experience for the driver. With a simple HVAC control system, and a easy to use head unit, we are reminded of the days where sports cars were meant to be driven. The days where it did not take 15 minutes to set your GPS, the days where you were excited to just drive with no destination in mind.
When the FRS first graced our eyes, our first thought was wheels! Being the type of people we are, the FRS could not leave our sights without a upgraded stance. A set of eighteen inch Niche NR6 were mounted to give the FRS a wider track. The wheels feature a gunmetal finish with weight saving spoke shavings.
The FRS in the end is a true drivers car. It is designed for the driver who wants to lead the car, not vice versa. As the replacement for the AE86, we think that FRS has done an amazing job capturing that raw driving experience that has been missing for far too long.
