Its easy to criticize the DeLorean now, but I vividly remember the excitement surrounding the car when it was first announced and launched in the late 70's and early 80's. I will never forget when a good friend of my dad's took delivery on his brand new DeLorean, and took me for a ride in it.

Remember, the US car market was full of POS Reliant K-cars, and Ford Tiempos at that time. The Delorean had style, design and technology that was way ahead of its time.

I will be the first to admit, the US suffered through the automotive dark ages for quite some time, with the late 70's and early to mid 80's being the worst of it. At the time, the DeLorean was something fresh and new with gull-wing doors, a brushed SS body, mid engine, and "futuristic" styling. At least for the time it was. Don't get me wrong, I think its an ugly POS, and would never own one. But it had its time and place in history.
