Are you actually going to save money by the time you have a new car payment, insurance and gas on an extra car? It sounds far fetched in my opinion.

Not my primary reason to get a commuter for money savings. Lets face it, just want a new car and finding a way to justify it. If I got a mini cooper then yes I would save money since it would save me hundreds per month on gas and then theres the over the miles that porsche will charge on the lease return. Right now I am on track to be $200/mo over the miles allowed. Also since it is a business lease the payment is actually half of what it would be with the tax savings. But I will probably end up getting something more expensive and will not make financial sense. We will see, still doing the internal struggle.
The feedback helps me get a perspective on what I should get.

Have you ever driven one for a long period of time/owned one? We had one when I was younger and it was cool as shit for about 9 seconds. Novelty wore off extremely quickly. That being said I drove a new Countryman w/ the new motor and liked it much better. Still think I'd tire of it very quickly though.

If by 'older' you mean the R53 chassis, I have no personal experience but I can't imagine it's a complete slag. I DD an R56 MCS for about a year. Other than a squeaky clutch fixed under warranty, Mack truck-like throws of the factory shifter (fixed with a SSK), and the amusing torque steer of a FWD car, it was a fine little auto. Handled very well and had decent power for what it was.
Now is it fast? Relatively speaking, heck no. Is it practical in terms of space? Eh. Had a surprising amount of room in the back seats. Not spacious by any means, but more than my 997.
