Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival - 2011 (Pic Heavy Content)

Here are a some pics from this year's Sonoma Historics. McLaren was this year's featured marque and as always, Steve Earl put on a first class event with 13 full grids of amazing vintage racing machines.

First up, the Can Am cars;
1972 McLaren M20 that took second place to the 917 Porsches in the 1972 series

Another M8 - Love the gold stacks against the blue color

A small block M8 that was running in 2nd place until some front suspension problems took him out of the race. Infineon is a track that favors handling and putting the power down early over high hp cars

An EVIL looking and nasty sounding Shadow. check out the 13" front tires, which was an experiment that didn't work as Shadow later went back to 15" wheels all the way around.

A stunning early model M8 with some unusual areo mods on the back

The Dream Team

An original 427 Cobra - a very rare spot these days!

A 289 FIA Comp Cobra - check out the bare brushed aluminum on the front!

So much win! Nice stuff Eric! I'm glad you had the chance to go again this year.

I love the shots of the injectors firing as well.

The firing injectors were really cool to see. It was an early 3.0 CSL so it had a SOHC motor with slide intake throttles, as opposed to the butterfly intake throttles on the later M motors. It was amazing to see how simple and mechanical the whole thing was. Push the throttle, slide opens, fuel sprays, motor revs....
