Automotive Malaise

For the past year, I've been trying to get excited about a new ride; and I just can't get there. Since dumping my 996, I'm just not motivated to stroke a check.

When I think that I've found what I'm looking for, go through the process of research, going to the lot, driving the car; I'm just not excited at the prospect of buying.

I'm probably not going to go out of my way to do track days anymore, been there done that an awful lot; on bikes as well as cars.

I don't drive like a douche on the highway, never have, making the notion of a road rocket not terribly enticing.

I've never experienced this before! Has anyone else?

Is this the point in life where people start buying convertibles? Or sedans? I already have my sales boy sedan, don't need another one of those.

I mean, at this point, most of my driving will be work related, to and from the gym, hauling my daughter around, road trips maybe.

Dunno, I'm just in a weird spot.

It really hit me last weekend when I thought that I'd finally made a decision. I saw and drove a completely loaded Shelby GT500... OMG, what a car. Outstanding price too! But ultimately, talked myself out of it!

Or... am I turning into an even worse tightwad?

I'm just rambling here, but I know, someone else has to have gone through this.

Sounds like a Panamera would fit the bill.

I not sure how old you are but for me (55) the cars I currently cover all my needs. I find myself not too excited about buying any new offering either. I thought of updating the 430 to a 458 but after looking at the trade up utility it just didn't seem worth the extra coin. My Daughter Private East Coast College Education for 4 years is less then the difference between my 2005 F430 and what they want for a 458. The only reason I keep my F430 is because my 10 year old son is now old enough to get in the car with me and enjoy the acceleration that the car provides. It has 15k miles on it, has been lowered and installed a free flow Tubi exhaust within 6 months of new in 2005. Other then regular annual maintenance and new tires the car has been been flawless.

My S65 only has 12K miles and it is better then new. If I sold it I would lucky to get $100K. The car is too enjoyable to sell it for that much. It has many long years of cruising left in. The recent trip to Phoenix with my son was great. Did it in one day (~750 one way). With distronic, night vision, active seats front and rear and 4 zone AC/heating etc. what car is going to replace a 604 HP/700+ torque machine like that. The Q7 will be my Daughter's this summer when she transitions from drivers permit to having her drivers license in August. The 10' E550 totally loaded is my wife's and we Purchased that a year ago and she loves it. What else is there to buy? Don't get me wrong I miss the hunt and the new car excitement but at this point in my life everything else would be redundant. GL with your search.
