I just uploaded this video to YouTube.

I went out to the car this morning, went to start it, and got that grinding noise that your car will make if you try and turn the guy, when the motor is already running.

Except, the motor wasn't running...

The vid quality is, meh... Shot it using my phone, and YouTube flipped the video on its side, and would not let me change it. Oh well...

Just want some thoughts before I go and start buying parts.

Okay, another video. The sound on the first sucked.

I managed to lodge my EVO under the hood of the Jag to better capture the sound.

Starter? Coil?

And yes, that is a washing machine box in front of the car.

Ours blew up, almost literally. And I'm keeping the box for 30 days to make sure this thing is to our liking.

 

Is the engine actually turning over? If not, it could just be the coil on the starter. Sounds like the starter is spinning but the bendix isn't kicking the pinion out to engage the flywheel.

 

No, the engine isn't turning over, but the starter is spinning. Standing in the garage, you can hear it spinning down. Not so much on the video though.

 

Yeah, then the pinion isn't engaging the flywheel.

Gotta love a $50 fix... Especially on a Jag.

So much for making it to Road Atlanta though.
