Remote mount turbos vs. underhood?

Does anyone have any personal experience with the differences between the two types of turbo setups? I am looking into a Squiers (STS) remote mount system for a possible project with a new car and was looking for input.

Benefits?
Weaknesses?

The claim is that turbo lag is the same or better with a remote system, plus obvious cooling benefits. But still looking for personal experience rather than rumor. Thanks guys!

my knowledge is at least 8 years old so bear that in mind - but a remote-mounted turbo will have more lag b/c the velocity of air is slower. hot air = faster air - if turbo is immediately after exhaust, instead of traveling the length of the car, turbo spool will be much improved.

i also don't know what the 'obvious cooling benefits' would be ? if you have turbos under the hood, with a quality FMIC, your intake temps will be very good.

There are also systems that mount the turbos neat the tranny. Supposedly gives great access for installation/removal of turbos.

The cooling benefits I refer to I meant the operating temps of the turbos since they are in fresh cold air instead of trapped under the hood with less flow.

The lag thought you mention is what I traditionally believed. However, Squiers swears by their system saying it does not lag more than an underhood system. Which is part of the reason I am looking for personal experience.

A GT28 generates something like 450 cubic feet of air per minute. It would only take a fraction of a second to fill the extra piping with air, even less with a bigger turbo. I don't think the difference in turbo lag would be noticeable, but I don't have any experience with it.
