Agree 100% ... but totally sympathize with desire for something sportier, also. When my boy was born, we had a VW Cabrio, and it worked well enough, but was far from ideal. Good alternative: Mazda RX8.

And, I echo all the other dads in this thread. Don't get a 2D car from both safety and practicality standpoints especially with a new born. It's totally different when they can fit in a booster seat post-toddler. I never even bothered to try getting my eldest into my 911 rear seat until he fit in a booster.

 

it is possible with a 2 door car as well....
put the passenger seat as far back as possible,disengage the passenger Airbag and have a good ride

but the 4 door option is of course a lot easier and much more safe

How about an M3 4 door Steve?

 

congrats first off. secondly screw 2 doors steve. also, why not get a bigger sedan? we have an e63 and an m5 and it's a decent trade off for a family car. you can't imagine how much crap you have to lug around for the kid. besides, what if the second one comes along before your lease is up? two kids in a 3 series or c class - no way.

further more, if you can get past the non-cool factor, an suv or a wagon in the mix would be desirable. we've run the gamut with an escalade, R500 and now an audi all-road for times when the trunk just isn't big enough.

 

Agreed. 4-Door such as an M5 or a E63 would probably be best. M5 would make a great family car and fun to boot.

 

4 doors is a must, your lower back will thank you.
